Sadly, we’ve heard that this place is closed.
This narrow bath kade serves up an enviable and all-religion offending selection of curries and meats. The fatty pork curry is especially succulent. Try it with the biriyani rice, chicken, and runny egg. If you added the beef you’d get all the major meat groups.
Heaven’s Kitchen, which apparently used to be called Hell’s Kitchen, is a small but obviously successful bath kade in Rajagiriya, just past the junction down the Borella-Rajagiriya road where it snakes towards Buthgamuwa Road and the Fairmount/Fairway apartments. It’s exceedingly narrow and has room for only about eight people to sit and eat, so most people get takeaway.
They have a biriyani, fried rice section and a Sri Lankan section, but you can mix and match. What they are best known for is the pork curry, as mentioned. The beef also looks pretty good.
Lunch for three (biriyani rice, chicken, egg and pork curry for all) cost about Rs. 1,300, including drinks (cream soda). So about Rs. 300 each. You could be less gluttonous for less.
As a note, pork curry is traditional but pork is still not easy to get, since most butchers are Muslim. If you’re looking to make it at home, check out the Catholic butchery at Kollupitiya Market.
Hat tip to the boys from SpoTuk for taking us here. Check them out for innovative trishaw advertising and contests.
