Marine Drive (AKA the Colombo Plan Road) is already roughly extended out the the Dehiwala junction. It’s a dirt road now with intermittent rubble, we wouldn’t recommend depending on it, but it looks like it’ll be ready soon.
Marine Drive is probably the best stretch of road in the city, besides the bit by the Galle Face Green. You get sea view all the way. A few years back they extended the road all the way to Kollupitiya junction from Ramakrishna Road in Wellawatte. Now they’ve extended it even further, pushing into Dehiwala, specifically Wasala Lane, which leads up to the William Grinding Mills junction.
What does this mean? Well, R&R Beach Restaurant is more accessible now, as is The Station beachside drinks and bites place. There’s also a new restaurant down there called Seafood Cove we’ve been meaning to try out.
We were also quite interested in the huge, round warehouses to the side, seemingly Navy stuff. They could be put to some creative use.
Word on the street is that they’re planning on extending Marine Drive further. As long as they put in some sort of human-friendly promenade (as planned), we don’t object at all.
