This is a great weekend for music.
Friday
8 PM: Friday night there’s the Big Ears concert at Music Matters. This is an intimate jam session with some of Sri Lanka’s best artists and an international guest, Darren Moore. Starts at 8 PM.
Saturday
Saturday evening, you’re spoiled for choice.
6:30 PM: At 6:30 PM you can hear independent rock-leaning music at the Warehouse Project during the 5th Melomanic Sessions.
8 PM: Then you can head to the historic Gaffoor Building (where we reviewed the Harbour Stop cafe) as it becomes a music venue during the Pettah Interchange. This latter show will feature artists from Berlin to Delhi to Sri Lanka, mostly electronic. That gig begins at 8 PM.
Finally, if you’re not into music, Indu Dharmasena’s Beauty And The Beast (licensed to match the Broadway/Disney version) is running every night at the Lionel Wendt. Also, during the day drop into Barefoot for an exhibition of photography and wearable art (AKA jewelry) by Chitra Premaratne-Stuiver and Mihiri Devendra. It’s called Film & Stone.
