Raja Bojun.

Raja Bojun is generally known for good Sri Lankan cuisine. They’ve moved from their old spot near Galle Face to a new location at the top of Liberty Arcade. The food is still good, so is the spread, though nothing amazing. We loved the seafood best.

Service & Ambience

The restaurant is on the 4th floor of Liberty Arcade and it’s a really nice, spacious room, with spaced out dining tables, a high ceiling, some unobtrusive plants, and giant Raja Bojun style flags flanking the little thatch roofed buffet. The service was very good, our waiters smiled a lot and the manager stopped to check on us. There were mostly foreigners around when we visited, and family crowds, and there was a violinist with a synthesizer in the corner (who played Happy Birthday for one of the customers).

There is also an elephant at Raja Bojun, sneaking out from behind a column – he’s the first guy you meet when you walk in. One of his ears mechanically flapped back and forth and he looked pretty real (we suspect he might be, secretly).

Food

There was a great spread of vegetable fried rice (we loved), noodles, chicken curry, crab curry, prawn curry, parippu, papadam – the usual Sri Lankan stuff, but it was all very tasty. The meat was well cooked and the curries they came in were thick and spicy. We especially demolished most of the crabs and prawns in the buffet, they were deliciously prepared.

We love open kitchens at buffets – and these guys had one for hoppers. The egg hoppers were good.

Desserts

The dessert spread was unimpressive, just very ordinary bananas, kavum, curd, that sort of thing. But they unexpectedly had in a little corner little circular pieces of chocolate cake or fudge that were actually very tasty and warm, try it with the vanilla ice cream.

Conclusion

Raja Bojun’s dinner buffet has got good stuff if you’re in the mood for tasty Sri Lankan food. It isn’t spectacular or anything, but it’s filling and tempting. This is for Rs. 1750 per head however, which is a bit posh so whether a decent spread of yummy but ordinary Sri Lankan food is worth that much, is a judgment call.
