I always feel like I’ve walked into the coolest joint in Colombo every time I walk into Barefoot.
The café/bar restaurant is always full of creative types that make me feel at home as I take out my laptop and pretend that Facebook is some “important work” that I have to do. The place is, chilled out, tropical but urbane and just plain cool.
To be perfectly honest, there is nothing in the Barefoot boutique that I would buy, well not at the moment anyway. It is however an amazing place to wonder around and marvel at the design genius that is Barbara Sansoni. The shop is full of vibrancy, colour, warmth and great design. Obviously at the forefront of the premium boutique shopping the three-level boutique is abuzz with tourists looking for something unique to take home.
I love the attention to detail. The little signs, posters, pieces of history, the names of the toys and just generally appreciate the amount of thought and work that has gone into creating such a unique shopping experience. It’s a great vibe that you get in there.
The staff are not only friendly and very helpful, but they are also obviously firm believers of the Barefoot ethos. You can see quite clearly the respect they have for the products and how highly they value them.
Expect to drop a small fortune of you plan on purchasing some Barefoot apparel. But as the old adage goes “You pay for what you get.” and what you get is very special. There are stories of people who still have their first Barefoot sarong from 30+ years ago and live in Iceland. The far dynasty that this brand has created is staggering.
Definitely one of the coolest places in Colombo for shopping and chilling and you can find me at the bar eating those amazing falafel wraps and washing it down with a frosty lager (after 5 PM, obviously.)
