Red Fort Restaurant.

Red Fort Restaurant is a small North Indian Restaurant on a small side road just off Baseline Road. The restaurant looks like an old abandoned house with wild grass and a kid’s playground at the front. The place is quite small but the service here is good and all in all, it’s a quaint, comfy place to have a meal.

Red Fort is the usual hangout spot for Geek Meet which happens every now and again. The restaurant has a very small dining area, with 6 or so tables seating less than 20 people. There is also a private room for large groups – this is also quite small, accommodating maybe another 10 or so guests.

I have to apologize to you in advance because we really didn’t get a chance to taste any of their ‘proper’ Indian food, but we did manage to get a pretty good look at what they have on their set menu (biriyani) for the lunchtime munchies.

Their lunchtime set menu is basically a choice between naan and biriyani, I decided to try out the biriyani. After what took about 10 minutes (pretty quick since I was the only customer), the waiter came back to the table with a mountainous plate of steaming biriyani, yoghurt and a lovely looking papad with some spicy green paste (delicious).

We really didn’t expect so much considering it was only Rs. 325, the steaming golden flakes of rice sat on top of healthy chunks of chicken and a fried egg. The portions are generous, to say the least – a great place for a lunch time outing with the office. We gave the biriyani a solid 7/10, if it wasn’t so oily it would have been an 8/10.

The service was also great when we walked in. Have you ever been to a restaurant and as soon you walk in it feels like you own the place? It may have (probably) been the fact that we were the only customers in there at the time, but the waiter who served our table was really polite and smiley.

So it’s a decent place for lunch (biriyani), we can’t really vouch for the rest of the food so we’d love to hear what you think of the whole place.
