If the view of the lagoon tempts you to explore it further, short motorboat rides to some of its islands are possible from the Lagoon Park on Bar Road. The Lagoon Park also has kayaks and paddle boats that you can rent by the hour. Further down Bar Road is Batticaloa’s Muttuwaran Lighthouse, built in 1913, which offers a fantastic view of the lagoon if you can brave the narrow ladder that takes you to the top.
