Mini Mago Inc is a store down Ward Place that has the coolest dollhouses you have ever seen. Trudi Malalgoda Amadoru, its meticulous designer, not only makes dollhouses and everything in them but offers custom-made miniature worlds to suit your whimsy.
If you’re one of those people who while watching The Lego Movie thought ‘man, I wish I owned a toy city like Will Ferrell’s!’ then this place will be bucketloads of fun to visit. Even if you don’t care about owning Will Ferrell’s toys, this shizz is still very, very cool.
What You’ll See
She designs them on a 1:12 scale, with mostly polyester clay and acrylic paint, a tweezer and other tiny tools. The detailing is mind-blowing. From the kitty lounging on a chair in the living room, to the juicy part inside the mangosteen on the table, to the tiny clothes inside the tiny closet – she basically replicates full-size life in her work to a T. The store has a few samples of her work – miniature houses, vehicles, furniture, people, et al.
Location
Trudi’s miniatures are displayed behind glass windows within Ward Place’s Techno Vision department store, as an annex. So the staff usually attends to customers walking in for sunglasses rather than dollhouses, but the receptionist is helpful enough to hand you Trudi’s business card if you ask.
Price & Variety
The designer also customizes according to requests, and apparently gets a lot of them come Christmas/ New Years’. She once made a miniature closet for a client, full of miniature versions of all the trophies he’s ever got. So if you have the money (about Rs. 10,000 for a fully furnished house that was in store), then you should definitely go for it (I know how I’m going to use this month’s salary – screw the bills, I want a mini-me in a mini-Batman costume in a mini-Batcave). If you’re not into dollhouses, then she also custom-makes fridge magnets. Regardless, a trip to the store with kids or just people who are fascinated by tiny things is a treat on its own.
