This is our version of the 2014 Ramadan times and dates. It’s based on data from the Nimal Road mosque, Bambalapitiya.
Ramadan fasting began on June 28th and continues till Eid-al-Fitr on July 29th.
This infographic shows the fasting and prayer times, which change slightly week by week. Note that the week changes are not correlated with the Sunday-Saturday week but more the cycles of the moon. Hence you break fast at 6:31 PM from July 1-6 and at 6:32 from July 7-10. Note that today’s times (June 30th) haven’t been included. They are – Luhar at 12:15, Asar at 3:42 PM, Maghrib at 6:30 PM and Esha at 7:47 PM.
Places to break fast are in almost any Colombo mosque, at home, or at the five star hotels and many restaurants. People often break fast together, across communities, and Eid-Al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, is a special time of food sharing for all Sri Lankas.
We wish all our readers peace, generosity and many blessings this Ramadan season.
