Lanka Hotel
Lanka Hotel is one of those streetside Pilawoos type establishments that we never dream of walking into, but instantly fall in love when we do. It's THE PLACE to drop by if you're in the vicinity of Kotahena and craving for a solid Chicken Cheese Kottu. Their short eats don't disappoint either.
Hunger Street
Hunger Street isn't some new road that popped up in Colombo that deals with a Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs kinda situation. In fact, it's a tiny cafe that does some good kottu items, pasta, burgers and shakes for wallet-friendly prices. We particularly enjoyed their Prawn Masala Kottu and the Ginger on the Rocks combo.
Ceylon King
Ceylon King is one of the nicest restaurants in Kotte with an ample seating space. Their menu leans towards the Sri Lankanised Chinese food aspect of things, but they also do pure Lankan stuff too, such as rice & curry. We highly recommend their pork curry. Full of spices and curry flavour, this one doesn't have a whole heap of fat in it.
Nest Restaurant
A popular member in the suburban BYOB scene of Colombo, Nest Restaurant is a three-storied establishment that is located in Boralesgamuwa. Like many BYOB places in the suburbs, they also do Chinese food with a Sri Lankan touch. The prices are a bit on the expensive side and the portions are quite enough to feed two hungry people. Make sure to give a shot at their Pepper Pork; it was our favourite out of the lot.
Navarathne Pure Indian Vegetarian Restaurant
Nugegoda has plenty of saiwar-style Indian Vegetarian Restaurants, but Navarathne comes with a clean, super family-friendly dining space. In terms of food, they can up their game with more spices and flavours, but we appreciate that they had gone the extra mile to establish a proper ambience.
Rollo Ice Cream
If you end up in Liberty Plaza this weekend while looking for some rolled ice cream, this is your best pick. Crafting up cups of rolled ice cream with a generous amount of toppings, Rollo is one of the most affordable spots of that kind too. They can certainly infuse some more flavours into its base to tone down the milkiness, but overall, it doesn't disappoint.
