Grill Hut
Grill Hut in Thalawathugoda does grilled meats and seafood. Most of their stuff is priced under Rs. 1000, which makes them quite wallet-friendly, in comparison to the other grills around. The Grilled Seer was our favourite.
VOC Cafe (Dutch Burgher Union)
VOC Cafe by DBU has been a go-to place for lamprais for many years, so it's quite unfortunate how they've diminished its portion size, and the flavour to some extent. Still, we'd like to recommend them for one of the best black pork curries out there.
On the other hand, their burgers simple, just a bun, patty/patties, pickles, sauce and onions, which is not a sight to behold, but yet they get good points for the taste.
Mr Gamarala
This is a nice option to get the lazy weekend Rice & Curry dose. Mr Gamarala does a massive spread of rice and curries to choose from, quite a lot of meat options too. While we weren't the biggest fan of their fish curry, we absolutely devoured the pork curry.
Crepe Runner (Mount Lavinia)
Colombo's one spot for crepes, the Crepe Runner now has a restaurant of their own, down Galle Road in Mount Lavinia. It's a quite tiny place and doesn't encourage dine-in as a precautionary measure against the pandemic, but hordes of people seem to be lining up in front of the place to get their crepe fix. The crepes are still excellent, and quite generous with the fillings.
Café by Raffles
This is a cafe with a view. Located down Nawam Mawatha, they have a great spot overlooking the Beira lake. It's a venture by Raffles, and serves up a delicious variety of snacks, rice & curry items, desserts and coffee for a very affordable rate.
