Laksa Noodle Bar.

As the name implies, the Laksa Noodle Bar does noodles. And they just might be one of the best places to get your noodle on in Colombo.

Vishvi has been asking me to go to Laksa for a while now. So on a gloomy Thursday evening,  decided to hop on a tuk and make our way to Thimbirigasyaya. And boy oh boy aren’t we glad.

Ambience

With a rather dingy lighting system and stools as the main form of seating, Laksa Noodle Bar isn’t your ideal spot to sit hours on end with your food. Instead, this caters to those of you that are looking for a quick dinner, without much hassle.

The Food

Everything from Pancit from the Philippines to Ho Fun from China, Laksa Noodle Bar offer a whole range of noodled options accompanied by either beef, chicken, prawns or vegetables. We went with a Beef Ho Fun (Rs. 1000), a Chicken Miso Ramen Soup (Rs. 900) and Prawn Dumplings (Rs. 750). Here’s how it went.

This is the Chicken Miso Ramen Soup. With a whole load of well-cooked noodles hidden beneath a marshland of vegetables and boneless chicken, this was brilliant. The chicken was tender and the spinach had a nice crunch to it as you bite into it. It’s ideal for a rainy afternoon. Nevertheless, compared to the Ho Fun, this was a little on the bland side, so if you’re looking for a bit more flavour in your dish, we suggest going with the next one.

Presenting, the Beef Ho Fun. A noodle bowl consisting of hand made flat rice noodles, onions, bean sprouts, bok choy, Chinese wine and a generous helping of beef. Packed with flavour, this was our favourite!

The onions still had a bit of a crunch to it, the beef was tender and the noodles-to-veggies ratio between was on point. It wasn’t saucy like most Chinese food we get around CMB and the portion was ideal for one hungry soul. A definite recommend.

As you can probably tell from the picture, the Dumplings were pretty oily. They did have a nice amount of filling inside them, and not good as we expected them to be.

Drinks

As for drinks, they only had Iced Tea and the normal sodas like EGB, Coke and Sprite and stuff. We went with Iced Tea (Rs. 150).

Icy cold and having the perfect amount of lime, it was a good one. They give a giant glass of sugar syrup with your drink so you’re free to make it as sweet as you like. Also, no fizz or cordials included.

Service

We have no complaints regarding their service. The lady behind the counter was one of the friendliest people I’ve encountered in a restaurant and the food arrived in less than 5 minutes. What more do you need?

Conclusion

In conclusion, we really liked Laksa Noodle Bar. Their food was pretty great, their portion sizes are good and the place is handled by some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet in Colombo. We’d recommend it.
