The new DC movie in town. On Monday, we headed down to the Dolby Atmos theatre of Scope Cinema at the Colombo City Centre to check it out.
If I’m being totally honest, our expectations going into this movie weren’t that high, considering the superhero movies that came out earlier this year. Yes, this is DC and yeah, it has a star studded cast including the likes of Peirce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi etc., with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson headlining as Black Adam, but that’s just how we felt.
However, we were in for a pleasant surprise as the movie exceeded our expectations with ease. The effects were really great in this movie, something which was surprisingly lacking in many superhero movies and TV series this year. The performances were also quite good, especially from Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, who easily stole the show for me. The screen presence and the charisma of Dwayne Johnson are hard to miss and although the representation of the character is somewhat different from the comic books, it was still a good showing from the former wrestling star.
The whole premise and the backstory of this movie were also well crafted with the plot twists and character developments and the entire history. But of course, even though the movie was quite good, the end credit scene was the real highlight of the movie and so, should definitely not be missed by anyone. It really sets the tone for Black Adam in his future in the DC universe.
What made this movie even better was the sheer experience of watching a movie in a Dolby Atmos theatre. It is simply stunning and is something you should definitely experience. If you’re going to watch an action packed movie, there really is no better place for it. The surround sound system takes the experience to a whole another level.
Also, it is definitely worth to mention the service of the staff at scope cinema. Friendly and efficient, they make sure day in day out that there is no hassle or long queue for any movie and also make sure that the customers have an enjoyable time both in and out of the theatre.
Another service definitely worth mentioning is the snack bar at Scope Cinema. They serve a range of delicious snacks including hotdogs, burgers, soft drinks, coffee and of course, popcorn. We went for the cheesy flavoured for this movie and with great difficulty, restrained ourselves from finishing the popcorn before the movie even began. Affordable and tasty, we were really impressed with it. Here is a sneak peek into their new menu.
