One of Wellwatte’s non-vegetarian heavyweights, Mayuri is a well established venue for Tamil meat curry classics- which actually means Seafood and Goat Meat curries.
Often visited at lunch for inexpensive sambar, rice and some squid curry, Mayuri is also one of Wellwatte’s crab contenders, along with Yarl Eat House, Omex Hotel, and the more upscale Yaal restaurant.
On our recent Crab Cruise Mayuri’s 10 legged offerings fared badly against the more succulent specimens at the Eat House- cold, not enough meat, half hearted generic curry sauce but there’s more to Mayuri than crab.
The squid kottu is yummy (their kottus are generally good), their Parata’s have a slight flaky edge over Yaal’s and the goat meat curry at lunch is pretty nice.
Also you can usually get the Tamil Desert par excellence- payasam, which is a good way to round off a meal.
The crabs clock in at around Rs 300 for one and a meal for two should be under Rs 1000.
