Ammi’s Meaty Delights is a home cook that delivers Sri Lankan style meat dishes. We tried their beef, chicken and pork dishes and they all turned out be very satisfying.
The Food
We actually came across Ammi’s Meaty Delights quite randomly while browsing through the Orderfood.lk list of restaurants, and thought we’d give it a try. The menu is small and very simple, with choices of beef, chicken and pork, each with a few preparations.
Prices are also very reasonable considering the portions are enough for five people with all the dishes priced between Rs. 500 and Rs. 750. We think Ammi’s would be a great choice for those planning a family get-together but can’t be bothered cooking for crowds.
The authentic SL chicken curry (Rs. 550) was just that, a classic home cooked Sri Lankan chicken curry. This can be best described as a very tasty chicken curry that you might get at an aunty’s house. Our portion had 6 pieces of well cooked and seasoned chicken with a lightly spicy gravy, which tastes pretty great just by itself.
The devilled pork (Rs. 700) was fantastic. What’s great was that the preparation here was different from the usual devilled pork you find at restaurants. This one has plenty of tender curry pork with a good ratio of both meat and fat pieces. It’s also not so spicy that you’ll be drinking water after every mouthful. There’s a few green chillies in there but most of the heat comes from the dried chillies and chili seeds, but it’s balances out well with the light sweetness from what we think was tomato sauce.
The beef steak (Rs. 700) was less a steak and more a black pepper beef curry, which we were fine with since it kind of completed our trifecta of meat curries quite well. This preparation was very pepper heavy, with sauteed onions and a bit too many capsicums. The beef itself was flavursome and cooked well, though we wish there had been a bit more beef and a bit less capsicum.
Ordering
So at the moment the only way to order from Ammi’s Meaty Delights is to call them through Orderfood.lk and have them deliver it. You’ll need to order either a day in advance, or place the order early in order to have it delivered the same day. You can find their menu here, but the rates are a bit outdated so expect to pay around Rs. 50 more.
While the delivery is convenient and generally reliable, the process of making the order was painstaking in our case since the guy on the phone knew very little about the menu or their existence.
Conclusion
True to the home cook code, Ammi’s Meaty Delights offer great value for money and some tasty Sri Lankan style meat dishes. Classic home cooked meat curries delivered to your doorstep.
