Rare bar + Kitchen is a quintessential significant historical home that is converted into a residence plus restaurant.
Dating back architecture to the 1800s, Uga Residence has successfully embedded an ideal, secluded dining experience among a common area with a colonial structure. The minimalist accenture of this location brings out a sense of class, a touch of locally attributed gastronomy, and the vibrant colors of Sri Lankan food to the table.
We were invited to a brunch with live music which started at 10 am – 2 pm. We enjoyed a serene and eclectic performance by Music by Q in the outdoor space of the venue.
If you are ever looking for a first class brunch episode, Rare bar + Kitchen serves its best from their ala carte menu. We were given some beautifully prepared and delicious dishes to try out for the review.
1. Perfect blend for him | Perfect blend for her
We were served a detox thirst quencher each of different combinations of locally sourced fruits and vegetables.
The perfect blend for him is a combination of sugar free, and purely a mix of vegetables put together. The taste elements are true to the veggies such as cucumber, spinach, king coconut, beetroot, basil seed, ginger and lime juice. Honey is the only sweet concoction to make the drink drinkable!
The perfect blend for her is more of the morning mix of sweetened fruits and nuts to relax with after a long run. This drink can win hearts since it has its natural sweetness from the soya milk, spirulina, banana, mint, dates and king coconut!
2. Signature Almond Croissant
We must warn you, on a good note, the Almond Croissant is a whole meal portion for you to enjoy your breakfast. The diligent filling of Almond cream and the crunch of almond nuts garnished on the top of this decadence is irresistible. Perfect for a sweet tooth!
3. Classic Crepes
If you look through their Bakery and Pastry menu, the Classic Crepes is going places with their simple, yet sophisticated garnish. The taste is beautifully crafted with homemade crepes, folded with hidden layers of dripped honey (or toffee sauce). We suppose this brunch material is served with different garnishing assortments on different days. We got a distinctive caramelized banana, strawberries, mint, and a tangy clotted cream. Much to it’s delight, this is a brunch you should dig in.
4. English Roast
A potentially filling balanced breakfast is what you call this plate of English Roast! As much as it covers all elements of a typical English breakfast, the taste is defined by Rare bar + Kitchen successfully. It could be the Saturday morning vibe, where you enjoy this delicacy in a peaceful setting. Bacon is usually added to the plate as well. The assortments in the plate can be adjusted according to your preference, which is lovely about the hospitality of the restaurant!
5. Kiribath – Red Rice
This stunning local palate is not only perfect on its plating, but also the bursting flavors. If you really want an escape to the real Sri Lankan experience, this dish of Kiribati is probably the one your mom prepares at home.
Here’s why we say that. This could be the milkiest kiribath served with more than the katta sambol. Unlike the dry servings you get in general, rare bar have delivered their cuisine exquisiteness as promised. We were served with some delicious chicken curry, dhal and pol Sambol as well.
6. “Rare” Breakfast Sunday
Yes, we love savoring a fruit bowl in the mornings, just to feel nutritious and energetic. Guess what Rare bar does? They feast your eyes and your hungry tummy. One of us enjoyed this the most since it was perfectly arranged-to-mix with homemade granola, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, strawberries, banana, plums, yoghurt, Meemure honey and mint. A must dig in breakfast item at this place!
