Bankhill Wellness Centre has been renamed OSMO Fitness under new management. It is an all round sports centre in Battaramulla, in progress. They have a pretty great gym here, and tennis, badminton and squash courts. A 50m swimming pool is said to be on its way, but I think this might take at least another year to finish.
I’ll start by mentioning their ridiculously expensive equipment – that’s their main selling point. They’ve invested in (possibly) the most hi tech gym equipment available and definitely the most advanced equipment I’ve seen in Sri Lanka.
The most noteworthy is their Techonogym Wellness Key. This little key, which operates like a small flash drive, fits into all (well, most) their machines and records and monitors your progress. It allows you (and your trainer) to set up workout routines. This basically makes sure you are more prepared for your workouts and gives you a report on your progress. It’s quite brilliant if you want it to be.
The treadmills and cross trainers all have individual monitor sets connected to each machine so you can watch TV, go on the internet and Skype. The only problem is that they don’t have all the channels you may have at home, which is quite disappointing, and I’m not sure if the Skype actually works.
The machine weights are quite cool too; they count your reps and monitor your form – a bunny pops up if you’re going too fast and a turtle if you’re going too slowly. They’ve also got really good cable machines. A sauna and Jacuzzi are being build in the changing rooms. A juice bar is supposed to come up and they’re looking to add more equipment in as well. It’s just taking quite a long time. It will be a really great gym once everything comes together – hopefully soon.
The annual individual membership is ~ Rs. 64,000 (i.e. with a discount) and a family annual membership will cost you around Rs. 160,000. This gives you access to the squash and tennis courts. It’s a very quaint and homely joint, a nice addition to Battaramulla. It’s worth checking out.
