Food & Drinks
Buono's menu is comprised of coffee, tea, milkshakes, smoothies, juices in the drinks section, and a few snacks like sandwiches, burgers, and doughnuts.
Wedged in between the perfectly toasted slices of bread, the Tuna Sandwich (Rs. 300) had a generous stuffing of well-smoked tuna, lettuce, and slices of tomato. The bread itself had a good crunch to bite and a sprinkle of mustard seeds embedded. Served with a massive side of cucumber, lettuce, and tomato salad, this is a good option for if you're looking for a light, yet healthy breakfast.
Covered with an ample amount of foam and a cute art of a bear face on top, the Hot Chocolate was alright. It had an overwhelmingly creamy consistency, which kind of overpowered the whole Cadbury Drinking Chocolate flavor.
The Cookie Coffee Shake was the bomb! Served in a mason jar, it had a deliciously creamy blend of Buono's very own chocolate chip cookie and milk, with a strong coffee flavor emerging through its rich texture. We were instantly drawn to it because it was chocolatey, with a nice cookie dough flavor running through, and a pinch of coffee, making for a real treat on a typically sunny day in Sri Lanka – what's not to like?
Buono does an excellent cuppa. Topped off with a beautiful layer of foam along with neat coffee art, our Cappucino had strong notes of espresso, layered over the light, velvety, and luscious milk, that has been steamed to point. They use a local coffee brand called Kiyota which you can actually purchase from the cafe itself. This is definitely one of the finest cuppas that we've come across.
Ambience & Service
Nicely curated with wooden chairs and coffee book tables, comfy couches, a few typography posters, and a bicycle hanging on the wall, the ambience here is trendy and hispter-like. The atmosphere is very calm and quiet, which is ideal if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, to dive into a good book or get some work done while sipping some good coffee.
The staff here are friendly, accommodating and efficient. With lots of genuine smiles, they made us feel welcome.
Conclusion
Kandy's cafe scene is popping and Buono is one of the main elements in it. Our experience here was a very pleasant one, and we can't wait to go back. Be sure to try them out if you're ever in Kandy, and looking for a good cuppa along with some delicious snacks.
