As Christmas is just around the corner and the hotels are all lit up, we visited Cinnamon Lakeside to take a look at their dinner buffet. Tucked away from the myriad of other hotels in the Galle face stretch, Cinnamon Lakeside is its own little thing.
From the picturesque Christmas tree at the entrance all throughout the hotel, their white Christmas trees with gold elements were simply stunning.
There were gloves stationed at the beginning of the buffet as a Covid-19 measurement. However, we did notice that there was a lack of sanitizer bottles.
Starters
We had two choices for soup – The Cream of Pea and a Thai lemongrass infused soup. The cream of pea was creamy and very flavorful. The lemon grass soup was stellar! It was super refreshing with distinct tom yum flavors but it was not tom yum?
We were also spoilt with our choice for bread: An olive bread – which tasted like pizza minus the marinara sauce. So delicious. We also had parmesan herb roll and a cheese crust roll along with a cornflake crusted bread. There was also a healthy multi grain alternative.
There was a range of mini salads to try.
Mains
We tried the mutton biryani, shahee paneer with peas, North Indian style fish, naan, butter chicken masala and dhal makhni, the flavors were there and the food was good. There was no wow factor that made us go crazy, but it was still good.
We also tried their turkey roast and herb crusted lamb – the turkey roast had a cranberry sauce to pair with along with roast potatoes. The turkey was cooked to perfection and tasted super with the cranberry sauce. If you are a fan of medium rare lamb – then this is the one for you, accompanied with an herb sauce and grilled carrots.
Next, we had the crispy battered chicken with tartar sauce, it was nice – it was not the best but it was still good.
The mixed seafood infused with a citrus butter sauce was to die for! It was simply lovely.
We also tried their creamy pasta – so simple yet so delicious. Sometimes the simplest things are the best things.
They also did serve pizza, which we did try and had nothing to rave about.
They also served up some sushi which was good. Tuna maki roll, Crab Maki roll and vegetable maki roll. They also served nigiri.
These are some of the special dishes that we did try, they also offered Sri Lankan food, noodles and fried rice. They also served up some kebabs that we could not try, along with a few dishes that contained pork.
Desserts
For dessert there were a range of pavlovas, mousses and cakes to try. Everything tasted really good and everything that included blueberry is a must try here! They also had ice cream with a range of toppings to choose from.
