Colombo Courtyard is a business hotel which also serves as one of the city’s hippest new bars. Two bars, actually, the Loft Lounge and Cloud Cafe. Both serve essentially the same things, just that one is indoors on the third (?) floor and the other is a two-level space on the roof.
This review will be limited to the parts Colombians with beds in the city, so the bars.
Location
While Dutch Hospital’s O Bar is probably the hottest in the city right now, the Colombo Courtyard has the advantage of being more central, in relation to where people actually live. It’s situated near the corner of Duplication Road and Baudhaloka Mawatha, nearish to Thumulla Junction. Just look at the map.
From the rooftop you can see the Dialog Future Center. It’s pretty nice, and not too loud at night. The place is usually kinda empty though, it’s nice to be at but it’s not like you’ll be around a lot of people.
Drinks And Food
Colombo Courtyard is expensive. I can’t remember exact prices, but I once went on a double date and the bill (for I think three bottles of wine, pizza and hot buttered broccoli) was over 10,000. The other couple picked up the tab and we half paid them back with gifts. Good night. Anyways.
I’ll check the menu when I go back, but expect to pay upwards of Rs. 3,000 for a bottle of wine and over Rs. 700 for drinks. The food is priced well above Rs. 500 for bites, but it’s good.
Service
The service at the Courtyard is attentive and excellent. They’re simply polite and they treat you as guests, something that’s sadly a rarity at Colombo bars.
