Remember the days when you had to make do with cosmetics from places like Srina Palace and/or Fancy Point? No more.
Sure we have The Body Shop and The Face Shop (unrelated) but the first one's way too expensive and the latter isn't as international as we'd like it to be. Then there's a plethora of Instagram and Facebook boutiques but there's also questions that follow like 'who can we trust?' or 'is this 100% authentic?' and so on.
The good news is that ColourPop cosmetics has finally set up a virtual shop so you can buy your favourite shades in the comfort of your own homes WITHOUT having to pay a ridiculous shipping cost.
I got on the hype train ASAP and the entire process, from purchase to delivery, was smooth as they claim their lip products are.
The Process
You have to place an order via their snazzy new website: colourpop.lk. They've got a selection of eyeshadows, liquid lipsticks and the usual. Once you pick your items, you check out and they'll deliver it to you within a week or so. Delivery charges apply depending on where you want it delivered.
The Stuff
Since I was one of the few people to place the first few orders it had to be done via their page (the website is fully functioning now). The package arrived right on time and as you can see, it was a neat little parcel.
I got myself two Ultra-Matte Liquid Lipsticks in the shades 'Bumble' and 'Zipper'. Each lipstick comes priced at Rs. 1,490. They also stock eyeshadow (around Rs. 1500 upwards) and palettes (around Rs. 5000), and face stuff like blush.
How'd it go?
Well, it's safe to say that the product is 100% authentic, imported directly from the USA so there's no need to worry there. However, ColourPop's Ultra Matte lipsticks are rather harsh and drying (as are most matte lip products) so I will advise you to condition and moisturise your lips thoroughly before application. The formula is rich and creamy but once it's dry it's a bit of a task to work with.
When I put the product on it immediately latched itself onto my lips like some alien elixir and I immediately knew it was going to take a bit of gusto to get the stuff off.
To my faint horror I felt it crumble and disintegrate until I was left with a blob of what felt like sandpaper. Not good. Not good at all. Thankfully with the help of some wet-wipes and oil I managed to get the product off.
I'm sure this is because I have rather small lips and deep grooves. But still I'd say this product is marketed towards the luckier girls with full, lush lips. Oh well.
Service & Delivery
I'd imagine you wouldn't have to interact with them much since the website is pretty easy to manoeuvre. They're really courteous over the phone. They keep the conversation short and sweet which is an added plus. Delivery's pretty smooth, too.
Conclusion
ColourPop is a HUGE name in the international makeup industry, so you're guaranteed to have quality products. Their eyeshadows are a bit on the pricier side, but at Rs. 1,490 their lip products are definitely worth the money.
