The Diyawanna Food Court, located in Alcatraz, is a recent development with some of the big names of the fast food culinary scene. The place is essentially just a big car park and probably the best place for kids to ride their bike or try on their roller blades. These days it’s also become inhabited by shady looking couples whispering sweet nothings to each other.
It’s located right opposite parliament grounds, Colombo’s most famous place for a game of cricket. The ground has been re-grassed and sadly you aren’t allowed to use the ground for cricket anymore. Now there’s only a concrete walkway around the ground where you can run around in circles if you’d like.
The food court consists of a Green Hut, run by Suki’s Wok, dishing out some Mongolian and Chinese food, an Elephant House with their hot dogs and the ‘legendary sauce’, a Roots for a sundae or a smoothie, a Keells serveing burgers and more hot dogs, yet another Elephant house stall with ice cream and soda and a few other shops serving kotthu, hoppers, burgers and drinks. There’s also a Parliament Souvenir Shop where you can find postcards and pretty random things like ‘parliament journals’ and ornaments.
With there being so many different food outlets I can’t vouch for the food but most of them are franchises so I’d assume the standard in quality is decent. The car park is in need of a bit of a fix up, it looks just as you would remember it from about 10 years ago.
At the end of the day it’s a decent place for a bite to eat after visiting the Diyawanna Jogging Track or the happen to be in the vicinity of the Parliament grounds. It’s also a good place to ride a bike, a family friendly place to stretch your legs.
