The jogging track opposite the Sri Lankan Parliament (Japan Friendship Road) has been a marvelous success at gathering large crowds of people. Covering a distance of 1880m, it is probably the longest track in the vicinity of Colombo, not to mention one of the most picturesque; solar powered lights span the length of the course creating a beautiful skyline by night.
The car park on the far end accommodates for plenty of visitors, although you might find yourself waiting for a parking spot on a crowded weekend. On the near end of the track is a fairly sized sitting area with concrete tables and chairs, perfect for a rest after a light workout. The Sri Lankan Navy also run their ferry service here.
The place is really beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere. With new jogging tracks coming up in several places around the island, I think it’s safe to say that the lifestyle of the common man is gradually evolving. Finally, people have somewhere to go and the means for a healthier way of life. And by the looks of it, this is just the start.
