Foody Goody, one of Good Market’s favourites on Saturday at Racecourse has started a stall at the Thursday Diyatha Uyana Good Market too. They sell totally natural, preservative/additive-free ice-cream made at home by Nimmi Perera.
There’s no sugar or flavouring added so you can expect a nice, fresh fruit taste. They have a few flavours; pomegranate, passion fruit, mango, strawberry and sometimes chocolate. We tried the passionfruit ice cream which was really creamy and authentic tasting, seeds and all. It tasted more like yoghurt and was really light and not too sweet, despite the ice cream tag. We didn’t try the pomegranate although it sounded pretty exotic, so that’s next on the list.
Foody Goody’s stall is right next to the Ceylan Crêperie‘s, so they team up their products (crêpes topped with ice cream) with brilliant results. At Rs. 200 a tiny cup, the ice cream is far more expensive than even imported Häagen-Dazs. However, this is the price you pay for fresh ingredients and handmade products made with care so it’s well worth it if that’s your thing.
