A long time favourite of families and budget travellers travelling to Galle, Indian Hut offers decent and affordable North Indian and Chinese cuisine. The restaurant is upstairs on a beautiful old building and offers a good view of the ramparts and the Galle fort lighthouse.
The food is very good. Try the butter and garlic naans (Rs. 50 and 90 each, respectively. Only available after 6.30 PM) with a side dish of chicken tikka masala (Rs. 420) or mutton kuruma (Rs. 440). They also reportedly serve some really good mutton biriyani (Rs. 390), and their fried rice is decent too. You can wash it all down with the very filling mango lassi or banana milkshake (both Rs. 180).
The staff are nice, but service is sometimes slow on busy nights (and the place does tend to get packed whenever tourists are frequenting the city) and seats next to the terrace are hard to come by. Yet if you’re in Galle Fort and looking for a good, filling meal without breaking the bank, Indian Hut is a place that you definitely need to check out.
