UPDATE: The English Cake Company now has its own outlet open every day. Read more here.
Panino makes excellent sandwiches. Filled with tasty ingredients, grilled, prepared with love. If you visit the Good Market each Thursday they’re well worth a try. Otherwise they’re a good choice for catering or office lunches.
Sandwiches are a neglected art in Sri Lanka. Almost everyone has rice for lunch and most sandwiches are painfully prepared by parents at six in the morning only to be returned – uneaten and unloved – by their kids in the evening. We don’t have proper delis, good bread it hard to come by, etc.
Thankfully, good sandwiches seem to be becoming more available in Colombo at least. Paan Paan makes excellent bread and they’ve opened a sandwich bar near Cricket Club. At Battaramulla’s Good Market every Thursday, Panino makes excellent hand crafted sandwiches as well.
We’d recommend checking whatever the specials are, those tend to be what moves. The sandwiches range from Rs. 400 to 500 and include choices like the Chicken Sundried Tomato Pesto Melt, Mushroom & Cheese, Pulled BBQ Chicken, etc. The place is definitely veg friendly, but if you like meat they don’t skimp either.
All the ingredients are fresh and they prepare it right in front of you anyways. We can say that the sandwiches are really tasty (we like with a bit of Nai Miris Sauce). The service is excellent and the location at the Good Market is beautiful and full of other interesting things to munch and take home as well.
If you want Panino on a day that isn’t a Thursday, just call. They do orders.
