Queen’s Cafe is a very popular fast-food stop down Duplication Road that’s been around for ages (I remember going there as a kid for their famed submarine). The quality of the burgers and subs are still quite good, it’s affordable, and you can play pool upstairs for 400 bucks an hour.
The Food
We got a classic Queen’s burger (Rs. 365), a chicken runner submarine (Rs. 410) and a plate of chicken cordon bleu (Rs. 730). Their menu includes burgers, subs, rice, meat dishes and even a wok section.
The plate of cordon bleu comes with garlic bread and veggies and is plenty, but the chicken wasn’t very soft or tasty. You’re actually better off skipping big meat plates here and just going straight for their burgers and subs, it’s what they’re known for so you can’t go wrong there (also, we’ve heard that their rice is good too though we haven’t tried it ourselves).
The chicken runner was recommended to us, and it had plenty of fried chicken chunks and was overall pretty spicy and filling. It’s tasty but their regular chicken submarine usually tastes better thanks to all the mayo in it. The Queen’s burger, with just a patty and a slice of cheese, was juicy and tasted good, totally worth the price.
Service & Ambience
The interior of Queen’s Cafe is your typical fast-food diner space. The manager was attentive, and the dishes arrived fast. The restaurant is in the middle of Duplication Road so the big glass windows look out onto a very busy street, especially lately because of ongoing road construction, but there’s this magnificent old tree with leaves growing on its trunk that thankfully blocks out most of the hustle and bustle.
Pool
If you go upstairs you’ll find 12 pool tables, and the room is usually quite full even on a regular weekday. The space seems well maintained and Queen’s is popular for its pool parlour, although it has to be said, it’s a man’s world in this room. It only costs Rs. 400 an hour.
Conclusion
Queen’s Cafe is a great place to eat a lot of tasty fast food without spending much. The pool tables make for a good after-work or weekend hangout with buddies, maybe followed by a Queen’s burger or two.
