Ramani Fernando’s isn’t a cheap place to get your hair cut. I had a standard cut and blow dry yesterday and it cost Rs. 3000. That’s a lot.
All of Ramani’s services are expensive – this isn’t the place to go if you’re on a budget.
If you can afford it, however, it’s very nice. There are branches across the city – at the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo Hilton, Taj Samudra, Jaic Hilton and then also the ones not attached to 5 star hotels in Nugegoda, Borella and Elibank Road.
They offer almost any beauty/spa treatment you can think of: waxing, hair straightening, manicure, pedicure, hair fall treatment, face and body bleaching (er, not sure what this is), eyelash and nail extensions (only at the Jaic) and so on. You can get a lot of stuff done. Apparently you can even get a diamond on your tooth – ‘smile gems’ I think they’re called.
Ramani’s is a nice place and a good salon. It won’t give you value for money, but they’re reliable and probably won’t ruin your hair. The staff – at the Nugegoda branch at least – are lovely. They haven’t changed in years, they remember all their clients and they’re just really, really sweet and friendly. The quality of haircut/beauty treatment obviously depends on the stylist, but overall you can expect consistent and good quality.
However, many of the services Ramani’s offers are available for much cheaper elsewhere in Colombo. There’s a whole host of aunties with little salons in their houses who’ll wax your legs and pluck your eyebrows for a whole lot less.
So unless you’ve got some serious dollar, Ramani’s probably isn’t the place to go for your regular beauty needs. For a treat or special occasion however, definitely.
