The Food
The menu of Secrets By Ayana mainly focuses on Sri Lankan and Asian fare, but also includes a collection of burgers, fusion wraps, as well as many interesting sweet treats – doughnuts, homemade ice cream and macaroons.
Clocking in at Rs. 1170, the Negombo Prawn Curry came with three roast paans and a side of kochchi sambol.
The bread seemed to have been made freshly. Served warm, they had beautiful crispy edges, and were pillowy soft from the inside. They paired well with the glossy, silky smooth prawn curry. While the gravy was truly flavoursome with its bold spicy and curry notes, the portion can certainly use a couple more prawns.
We enjoyed the kochchi sambol too but would prefer a little more kochchi in the mix, as it wasn't spicy as we anticipated.
This Ciabatta Sandwich (Rs. 1230) has an incredibly juicy, tender beef steak, a generous amount of stringy mozzarella, as well as sauteed mushroom, pickles, jalapeño and onions, neatly layered between some amazingly fresh ciabatta. A beefy, cheesy, spicy treat, this one is. There's a playful zing coming from pickles, which strengthens up the flavour profile even more.
The chunks of roast potatoes on the side were absolutely crispy, and goes really well with the spicy sauce.
We devoured this Boston Cream Doughnut (Rs. 270). It was pretty heavy for a doughnut, all thanks to being stuffed to the brim with that brilliantly executed, super silky, hella creamy pastry cream. With a little crisp from the outside, and airy from the inside, the doughnut was wonderfully done, and had a rich, chocolate glaze.
Conclusion
Secrets By Ayana does a fine job at creating some truly spectacular delights. While it may be a little pricy for a cloud kitchen, they've got an impressive spread, and we liked what we had. That being said, we're definitely thinking second rounds for that yummy Boston Cream Doughnut.
