Update: Since our last review, Skrumptious has moved to a new premises on Jawatte Road.
Skrumptious has been in the brownie catering business for the past 2 years and has made quite a name for itself. They recently opened their first dine-in outlet on Sulaiman Terrace (Thimbirigasyaya). We knew a chocolate overdose was imminent, but that’s the best kind.
Desserts
The menu at Skrumptious is almost entirely dominated by their brownie and chocolate based dishes, but they do also offer sundaes and fresh juices. At the moment they only offer desserts but they intend to bring in savory options in the future. Their desserts range between Rs. 400 – Rs. 700, and while that is on the higher-end, we believe the quality of the products and the ingredients used justify the pricing.
We tried the Cream Cheese Brownie (Rs. 550), Chocolate Mousse Supreme (Rs. 650) and their Signature Milo Shake (Rs. 400). We’ve heard a lot of good things about their brownies, and tasting their Cream Cheese Brownie we could see why. It was served with a dollop of cream and a good amount of strawberries. The brownie itself had a nice thin crust on the outside and a soft, oozy center which adds up to a perfect mix of textures. While Rs. 550 for a Brownie may seem like a bit much, there were no compromises in terms of quality. The portion size was just right, the strawberries were fresh and we could distinctly taste the cream cheese. The Milo Shake was also not your conventional Iced Milo. It came with a layer of cream and a sprinkling of Milo powder on top, and had a smooth consistency with the Milo powder adding that crunch we all love.
We should warn you though, the Chocolate Mousse Supreme is not for the light of heart. The Mousse itself had chocolate chips hidden inside and was served with strawberries, chocolate sauce and topped off with a generous amount of melted white chocolate, all of it coming together beautifully. We can say with confidence that this was one of the best renditions of a Chocolate Mousse we’ve had the pleasure of tasting in recent times.
Update: Since our initial review, Skrumprious has introduced a new flavour in collaboration with Danu, aptly named Danulicious for Rs. 1250 per box. It’s a revamped version of their cream cheese brownie with almonds and chocolate ganache sauce. They’ve also introduced a pretty neat wooden gift box, which comes with their double chocolate brownie flavour.
When we think of Skrumptious we immediately think of gooey brownies, and this one is no different. The brownie itself is super soft and quite literally melts in your mouth. It has layer of cream cheese, topped with a thick chocolate ganache sauce and drizzled with a generous portion of almonds which adds a nice crunch to go along with the gooeyness.
Ambience & Service
The restaurant is quite a small place with seating for around 15 people, but it’s got a homely feel to it. They opened their doors just last week so they’re still a bit rough around the edges, but the management is open to suggestions and seems to be on the right track. The service was also quite fast with all our orders coming in under 10 minutes. The staff was friendly, and had a good knowledge of the desserts.
Conclusion
Skrumptious has taken a step in the right direction by opening it’s first dine-in restaurant. They offer some of the best Chocolate based desserts in Colombo with very high quality ingredients. If you haven’t checked it out already, you really should.
