We heard good things about Spicy Cabin, but our experience simply wasn’t that good.
Spicy Cabin is a buth kade on the Narahenpita-Nawala Road. The people seem nice enough and it came highly recommended from neighbors, but our lunch there was well below average, and relatively expensive. We paid Rs. 610 for two packets, chicken rice and curry and chicken buriyani. The normal price is a bit less but we got extra salad.
It wasn’t good. The rice and curry had way too much going on – three vegetables, oily chicken – and there was nothing delicate about it. Just a mix of hodis with no particular harmony. Honestly, just a mess.
The chicken buriyani wasn’t much better. Dry chicken, flavorless green sambar, mediocre rice. It was better than the rice and curry only in that it had less going on.
We’ve heard that Spicy Cabin has good breakfast and late-night fare, and we will try it again, but based on one lunch experience it’s just not very good.
