Sweet Tomato Halal Family Restaurant is a decent if slightly expensive option in Pettah, across from the Red Mosque. Down 2nd Cross Street, this clean and friendly establishment serves a decent biriyani at the rather high price of Rs. 400. They also do fried rice and rice and curry.
Pettah is a bustle and sometimes just finding some place clean and calm is a blessing. We dried the Chicken Dum Biriyani (which comes with a good hunk of red chicken 65. There are good portions, fair amount of cashew in the rice, it’s really quite flavorful enough. The price of Rs. 400, however, is a bit steep. You can get proper meals at more upscale places like the Barnesbury for only a bit more.
Sweet Tomato does, however, have a good location in Pettah and a relatively good website. If you’re looking for some reliable refreshment in the area, it’s not a bad bet.
