Takeout Lanka.

Oddly, I've been finding myself reviewing burger joints these past few weeks and last night, I had a burger at McDonalds of ALL places (doesn't relate, but still). Why? I don't know.

Anyway, burgers are all the rage now ( or something like that). We had VoV's brilliant vegan burgers, mediocre burgers from Mr. Burger etc, but although TakeOut's burgers are good, the heavy price tag made me raise an eyebrow.

Note: They haven't got any vegetarian burger options yet.

The Food

They've got a very limited menu, with a bunch of different items with descriptions that indicate that they're all pretty much just the same. But that's okay, most places do this.

We got a portion of Large Fries (Rs. 350) which was a plateful of supermarket fries that came tossed in chilli flakes, chilli powder and salt. Oh and also a suspicious dip that tasted like water but looked like thousand island dressing.
The chilli powder and flakes jazz the fries up a bit, but that's about it.

The BBQ Chicken Burger (Rs. 500) wasn't anything special. There really wasn't anything that made it stand out from the burgers at Royal Burger or Fazly's

Instead of the average chicken patty, you get sliced chicken fillets smothered in a delicious bbq sauce and a sad piece of lettuce. If you ignore the lack of veg and the price, the burger is actually quite good.

The chicken is tender and juicy, and seems to have soaked up all the goodness of the sauce. I do wish they held back on the sauce a bit because it dripped everywhere, but I suppose we must take things as they come, no?
The Beef Cheese Delight (Rs. 750) is another exorbitant, sandwich that's served by itself and nothing more. We put the fries and the sauce in there to make it pop.
The good thing about it is that it comes with a monstrous (no joke) beef patty that's cooked to perfection. The meat is still a light shade of pink towards the middle and if that ain't satisfactory, the whole thing also comes stuffed with cheese. Again, the presence of any greens was practically nil, but that's alright. We were too busy enjoying the patty to care.

Also, they have an option that lets you pick how spicy you want your burger to be. So if you're a fan of the ol' fire juice, tell them and they'll take care of it.

Sidenote: the packaging is pretty cool. We got our takeout in this fancy box with a lid and everything, but is this a sustainable concept?

For drinks, we got an Oreo Milkshake (Rs. 350) with a chocolate base (you get to pick your base flavour for the shakes). Now this is a bad choice here, because the chocolate base drowned out the oreo flavour so I recommend you stick with vanilla. The milkshake came out tasting like a regular chocolate shake from McD's so, best order something else.

I got a Goa Lemon (Rs. 380) which tasted like a mix of soda, lemon juice and a soft drink (sprite, most likely). It came with a few mint leaves that did nothing, but I have to say I loved it. It was wonderfully sour and tart, and worked as a great bit of refreshment.

Ambience & Service

The place is weird. It's too big, with the tables and chairs placed oddly so that it resembles a classroom arrangement. We weren't big fans of the decor, either. It was just photos of their burgers. A bit of personality would definitely liven up the place.

The people manning the counters are really friendly, but they mixed my order up and brought out the burger that I wanted to take out. Which is annoying because takeout shouldn't be an issue here on account of the place being called, you know, TakeOut.
The food took some time to get to our table though and it might only be due to the fact that they're new, but the service certainly could use a bit of a sprucing up.

Conclusion

Meh, I'm not a big fan of the place. I'd go here again, if someone else was paying but otherwise I can just order in from McDonalds and get a meal for the same price as the Beef Cheese Delight.

Eitherway, the Beef Cheese Delight is somewhat of an experience, so if you're down to trying it, then you certainly should.
