The Beach is an all suite hotel in Negombo. They’ve got an unbeatable location, breathtaking views of the sunset, good food at their rooftop restaurant and great service.
Location & Ambience
When it comes to amazing sunsets, Negombo is as good as it gets, and The Beach offers one of the best sunset views on the entire Beach Road stretch. The hotel is located less than 100m from the ocean, so even when you’re in the suites you can hear the waves lapping on the shore. It’s also the tallest of the hotels in the area so the view from their rooftop restaurant (aptly named The Vu), is fantastic.
In terms of architecture, they’ve gone with a modern and minimalistic look. They say you can’t go wrong with white, and that couldn’t be more true when it comes to the white washed walls of The Beach which keeps things simple yet elegant.
If you’re the type that hits the pool once the sun sets, then you’ll love the fibre optic theme of The Beach, which gives it a sort of starry night theme.
The Suites
Each suite at The Beach has a direct view of the ocean, and we were fortunate enough to get one on the 4th floor. The single bedroom suites start at $125 (Rs. 16,500) and two bedroom suites at $195 (Rs. 25, 350) per night on a room only basis.
The suites are spacious, well air conditioned and comes with a balcony to enjoy those stunning sunsets. When they call it a suite, you expect more than just a regular room, so in this case you get a small living room area with a large sofa, dining table set for two, a fully fitted kitchen, a 40” smart TV and of course free high speed Wifi.
What’s awesome is that they’ve made the most of the functionality of the smart TV, so you can get any information, go through the TV guide and even browse through the menu at the restaurant so you know what to order when you get there.
The bed is also super comfy and kinda’ makes you want to just stay in bed the rest of the day, but then you get hit by a dilemma when you start seeing the sun setting. The bathrooms, while not the largest, comes with Grohe and Bravat fittings, as well as a relaxing top mounted large shower.
The Sunsets
Now we don’t generally have a separate section like this, but the sunset we experienced at The Beach was just too amazing to pass up. These were taken from our balcony, on the beach and from the rooftop. We’ll just let the pictures do the talking. Negombo is always a great place for watching sunsets – browse through the gallery here for more, and check out our Negombo Sky post for more sunsets.
The Food
The Beach offers two dining options for their guests, breakfast at the ground floor restaurant (or poolside) and dinner at the rooftop restaurant- The Vu.
Unlike larger hotel chains, The Beach doesn’t offer buffets, and as such you have the choice of either a continental or Sri lankan style breakfast.
For dinner they send you up to The Vu, which offers an extensive menu of contemporary western, Asian and fusion cuisine. All in all we had a pleasant experience, both in terms of food and service, but we’ll be putting out a more detailed review of The Vu in a few days.
Service
Hospitality was one area that really impressed us here. The staff was attentive, friendly and very professional. The operations manager in particular, was always around, so if any of the staff had any issues he’d be around advice them. The same could be said for the restaurant, with fast service and the manger getting feedback and taking notes from each table.
Conclusion
You know a hotel ticks the right boxes when you feel bad to leave. The Beach really does offer everything you’d want to experience in Negombo, whether it be the beach, the sunset or just an all round relaxing and pleasant vacation. They’ve barely been open for a year, so we’ve got high hopes for the future.
