Every Friday The Soup Bowl serves up a lunch to anyone in need of a meal. The lunch is mainly for the poor off the street but all are welcome. The meal is served at The Drop In center where anyone in need of a meal can come, sit down at a table to have a lunch at the Scott Hall of the Kollupitiya Methodist Church.
On a regular Friday afternoon, there will be at least 100 people who will walk through the doors of the Scott Hall to either sit down and have a home cooked meal. Most of our patrons are street cleaners, street people, people who are security officers in various establishments in and around Colombo 3, and families from poor neighbouring communities.
Apart from the meal, people also come to The Drop In center for some friendly company, to share their burdens, or to be prayed over. Some of the elderly uncles and aunties wait a while longer to while away time until its time for them to head back home.
If you know of anyone in need of a meal, point them in our direction The lunch is served from 1 PM. It is first come, first serve basis, so if you are extanding an invite to someone in need of a meal, do tell them to drop in by 1 PM. All leftovers, if there are any are packed and sent off with the families who are present at the end of the evening.
To Give: We cater for 100 plates costed at Rs. 200 a plate. In addition we also purchase 100 cups of yughurt which is Rs. 3500 in total and a transport cost of Rs. 2500 is included to transport the food from point the caterer to the Drop In centre. The total cost for a Friday lunch is Rs. 26,000.
