The Tree of Art is a tiny little shop in Nugegoda – so tiny we didn’t even know it was there. We came across it quite by accident, having ventured into Nuge in search of a fast food joint called The Meat Locker. Unfortunately The Meat Locker looked as unappealing as it sounded, so we made a hasty retreat sans review. It was then that we chanced upon The Tree of Art, an almost unnoticeable little store selling a random collection of Barefoot/Paradise Road type items – ie. incense holders, candles, boxes, brass pots, etc.
It’s a sweet place with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, but I can’t imagine they get too many customers – it really is a random little shop, selling some random little things.
However, their products are affordable and overall quite nice – Some notable items we saw, faux antique doorknobs for Rs. 185, and nicely painted oil lamps for Rs. 1,400. So if you want something that looks like it’s from Paradise Road but costs half the price, check it out.
