Movenpick boasts of its location in the heart of Colombo, its 219 spacious, luxury hotel rooms and their multi-cultural cuisines. We were given the privilege of indulging in their weekend lunch buffet, one of the hotel’s best-sellers – rightfully, so.
Starters
From sushi to seafood to your favourite salads, this starter spread has everything you need to spice up your appetite. But here are some of our favourites.
There were a number of salads to choose from and salads we tried were refreshing with a mixture of mild flavours. Even though the choice of sushi was limited, they were deliciously prepared and included a vegetable sushi roll, Kakinoha-zushi (sushi with pink salmon on top) and sushi with fried fish.
The greek salad wasn’t just aesthetically pleasant to look at, it was fresh and tasty.
There was a wide range of vegan and non vegan salads to choose from. We personally enjoyed the baked fish salad and the Japanese Kome Rice. This spread also included fresh crab, prawns and mussels. If you are a seafood lover, this is a must-try!
The Mains
Unlike most buffets, the lunch buffet at Movenpick featured a number of colourful cuisines, and a wide range of seafood, chicken, pork and vegetarian dishes.
Desserts
The desserts tasted as good as they looked. There were a number of fruit-fusion mousse and tarts to choose from and of course, everyone’s favorite – ice cream in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. However, there were no toppings such as sauces, chocolate chips or sprinkles to add to the ice cream but the varieties of chocolate chip cookies, raisin cookies and butter cookies to make up for it!
Priced at Rs.6,900 nett* you can enjoy the lunch buffet at Movenpick. If we are being awfully honest, the quality and variety of the dishes offered at Movenpick were better than most of the spreads at most hotels in Colombo.
Personally, we had a delicious and enjoyable afternoon at Movenpick and we’re sure you will, too.
