Verandah is a poolside restaurant in the Hilton Residences (JAIC). It’s a bit hidden three stories up but they do a decent take on hotel food with an interesting view.
The Location
We actually came to the Hilton Residences looking for Union Bar & Grill, which is under renovations. They directed us upstairs to the Verandah, which we’d never heard of before. It’s on the third floor where the pool is, somewhat randomly.
There’s a nice view from the poolside, as well as from inside.
The Food
The Verandah menu is quite ambitious, featuring exotic dishes like foe gras (Rs. 5,800), seafood aioli with laksa foam (Rs. 840), and taro crusted tofu (Rs. 850). They also feature regular items like steak (Rs. 2650+), club sandwiches (Rs. 840), and prawn penne pasta (Rs. 840).
We tried two items, the chicken cordon bleu (Rs. 1,150) and the seared salmon (Rs. 1,800). They were both fine, but neither really soared to the anticipation level of the menu. The cordon bleu was well plated but ultimately forgettable. There wasn’t much chicken and there seemed to be little attention paid to the sides (boiled veg and mashed potatoes).
The seared salmon was much better. The salmon was perfectly cooked and served on a bed of nice risotto. The salad, however, was basically garnish, not very interesting to eat.
They also serve beer and it’s not a bad place to hang out. The dining, however, meets a hotel standard but doesn’t really push beyond it.
The Service
The people are quite nice here, no complaints.
Conclusion
The Verandah Bistro is a lesser known hotel restaurant on the third floor of the Hilton Residences. It does average hotel food with a nice poolside view.
