We’re calling this shop Warehouse Project for lack of another overarching brand. The Warehouse Project is actually a community center of sorts in Maradana, but we’re referring to their stall at the Good Market. This stall serves a variety of stuff – from nai miris to pollos cutlets to dim sum. It’s all very good.
The Food
Last weekend we tried some of their new offerings, dim sum, sticky rice a new dip/sauce called cashew-naise.
The dim sum is excellent, prepared hot hot and served with chopsticks. The flavors available are curry satay, spicy shiitake and sweet potato, and chicken & prawn shu mai. We tried the chicken and prawn, which was excellent. The wholemeal dumpling, filling and dipping sauce were all great.
The sticky rice (Zongzi) is also very good. It’s served in a banana-leaf wrapped triangle and opens to reveal chopstick friendly rice with good pieces of chicken and little prawns throughout, plus a nicely marbled egg. Whole range of flavors going on. For us it makes for an interesting oriental lamprais though, of course, this traditional presentation is probably much older.
Finally the cashew-naise (Rs. 500), which we bought and took home. This is a sauce made from cashew, apple cider vinegar, etc. It’s vegan. At first dip we thought the mixture was a bit sweet, but it grows on you such that we finished the entire bottle in a few days. It’s a very interesting and innovative use of cashew, and it works. Excellent for dipping veg in and could be used in any number of presentations, unless you finish it first.
Service
Being at the Good Market, you’re talking one on one with the people making the stuff, so the service is excellent.
