Clique is one of our favorite restaurants in Colombo, and now they’re delivering bento boxes for lunch. We tried them and they’re pretty good. For now each one costs Rs. 1,200 and they deliver within Colombo city limits. Note that for now they only deliver on Fridays and from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
The Food
We got what we think was an early sampler bento. Basically, lots of food. The bento above had a nice crunchy tempura prawn, a tender and well cooked chicken thigh and vegetable maki, plus a beet root soup. It’s a healthy and filling meal, though you’re not getting actual fish sushi. The chicken thigh was our favorite part, followed by the prawn.
The other bento we got was centered around chicken karage (fried chicken). This was a bit tough but tender enough inside and tasted good with the included soy sauce. We like the rolls on this one though, again, they were vegetable based. This includes rice and grilled vegetables but again ends up being a (relatively) healthy yet filling meal.
Overall it’s a nice idea. Rs. 1,200 is a pretty good price for this amount and quality of food, and it comes well packaged and thoughtfully curated. It’s definitely more interesting than your usual buth packet. One thing missing is that there’s no sushi, which Naniyori does deliver in a bento for around Rs. 1,000.
That said, this bento is tasty food from one of the best restaurants in town, and with delivery it ends up being pretty reasonable. If you’d like to try it out, you can check out their menu on Facebook and order by calling 767 254 783.
