The YAMU canines were being walked in Battaramulla when we came across a rather interesting bus stop. Alongside Parliament road, on the new Diyawanna walkway, a large translucent leaf arches over the pavement, giving shade to bus commuters and pedestrians desiring reprieve from the vicious midday sun.
Colombo’s bus shelters – where present – are rarely more than random rectangular structures, seemingly erected from leftover building materials. They’re not particularly exciting, nor do they quite serve the purpose of sheltering.
This bus stop in Battaramulla, however, is really nice. It’s large, actually serves its function, and has some cool cement cubes for you to sit on. We like it. And its not too far away from Rama’s Tea House, which serves fish and chips and lovely tea cocktails.
