If you look behind Dutch Hospital, you can see that construction is already proceeding on another area full of shops. Right now an Avirate branch is open but other shops are obviously opening soon.
This large building which Avirate calls the Old Fertilizer Building currently houses them alone, but it looks like there’s room for at least three more stores, or possible a gallery of more smaller shops.
There’s a nice old-school walkway as well, with ‘Brown & Co’ (Browns Group) in the tile.
Across the street there’s another beautiful building in early stages of refurbishment. This area, however, is still somewhat militarized (Defenders galore) and still very close to the Central Bank (site of the infamous bombing that began the retreat of Fort decades ago).
I’m afraid we don’t know too much about what exactly is coming up behind Dutch Hospital (we hear a Flower Drum also) but we are pleased that the urban renewal Dutch Hospital spawned is now spreading out into Fort proper. We look forward to a proper walking/shopping/dining city center soon.
