Hikkaduwa is one of Sri Lanka’s best beaches, in season from November to January but beautiful throughout. Almost every day around 6 o’clock, it’s a good place to catch a sunset.
The main strip near Mambo’s (A-Frame Surf Shop) is as good a place to start as any. There are rocks out in the distance that frame the sunset perfectly.
Technically, when you ‘see’ the sunset, the sun has already gone below the horizon. What you’re seeing is the light bent around the earth, through our atmosphere.
It’s a beautiful show.
