Kottuville is a mobile kottu truck with novel flavors like cuttlefish and sausage and paneer. We went for the launch last week and, despite rain, it was packed. Such is the demand for kottu, and if you have a vehicle that can track drunk people around it should be gold.
We had only a few samples – paneer and sausage – which were quite good. It seems like the basic kottu but slightly modernized. The essential flavor and chopping is there, but it’s paired with a California-food-truck style creativity.
The truck itself is a basic batta, what must be a very hot container inside with about three people serving. For the launch event, which had over 200 people, that wasn’t quite enough, but that’s a size they weren’t prepared for. For an average night outside a club it seems like they can manage.
In this sort of food service, if you have quality, it’s all about location, and for Kottuville their potential locations are anywhere.
Right now they’re doing private events but over the next month you should begin to see their truck roaming about Colombo at lunch, after work and we’re assuming late night.
For now you can follow them on Facebook.
