YAMU is now working with PickMe to launch food delivery in Colombo. You can call it PickMe Food.
If you read no further, know this:
- Delivery will be fast, 30-45 minutes in most cases
- To keep delivery fast, we'll roll out in limited areas
- Our very reasonable commission is good for restaurants
Restaurants
If you're a restaurant and you'd like to expand your business profitably, contact us. I say profitably because we charge a commission well within restaurants profit margins and thus deliver actual cashflow to their business, not just 'revenue' or 'marketing'.
Aside from physically delivering good to customers, PickMe has probably the biggest active userbase in Sri Lanka (and YAMU has the most active eaters), so PickMe Food will deliver those customers to you.
If you're interested in signing your restaurant up, email food@yamu.lk.
Customers
If you're a customer and you want to get the food you like while you're still hungry, PickMe Food is for you.
Part of the value YAMU brings is that we're curating a great and uniquely Sri Lankan set of restaurants – so the rice and curry and street joints we love, as well as the middle and high end restaurants. There's also no minimum order so if you want just a buth packet… OK.
In terms of your user experience, you'll be able to order through the existing PickMe app and you'll be able to order from restaurants close to you. The delivery charge will be by distance and will generally be less than Rs. 150.
We've been testing the service at office and we generally get food within half an hour. We're targeting delivery within 45 minutes max, which is the magical amount of time between hungry and hangry.
YAMU and PickMe Wha?
So YAMU and PickMe are working together? Yeah. YAMU knows and loves restaurants and PickMe is excellent at executing technology and logistics. On this project we now physically work out of the PickMe office and I (Indi Samarajiva) and Bhagya (Goonewardhane) are the product managers or whatever for PickMe Food. Basically we're the ones responsible.
YAMU editorial goes on as usual, and independently. Our traffic is growing, and we're super excited about this opportunity to combine our passions for eating and sitting on our butts.
