OK, now for reals, the One Plate Project is launched. You can go to anything.lk, buy a plate of traditional sweets from whatever community (Aasme, Breudher, Wattalapan, whatever) and it’ll get randomly sent to someone else. In return you’ll get a plate of sweets as well, all delivered on the 27th and 28th of May. We missed Avurudu by a month, but this project will be ongoing.
The basic idea is taking what neighbors do and put it online. All the different communities in Sri Lanka live together and on holidays we share food. Muslim families send savans or wattalapan after Ramadan or at various Eid festivals, Sinhalese and Tamil families share sweets during traditional New Year, everybody loves Burgher Breudher over Christmas.
That sort of food sharing binds people together and the point of the One Plate Project is to extend that food sharing online. So go share a plate, it’s only Rs. 500, with free delivery in Colombo 1-10.
