With Christmas just around the corner, we're all excited about any day we don't have to sit around behind a computer between 9 am and 5 pm.
Whether it be for finishing up your Christmas shopping, decorating your house or just figuring out what to do about the days to come, it doesn't matter because the weekend is finally upon us. And with each Friday comes our list of favourite places of the week. And like every other Friday, here goes!
Ports of Call (Taj Samudra)
We kicked the week off at Ports of Call's Sunday Brunch buffet. Coming in at a pretty whopping Rs. 4,200, the buffet happened to be quite nice. Starting precisely at noon, the buffet happened to be a mix of lots of meat, a vast selection of Sri Lankan food and plenty of sushi to keep anyone happy. Plus, it feeds the inner child within you with a separate section of fried goodies and candy floss. The best part is that you can go for anything without getting any sort of judgemental look from any of the staff. All in all, we were pretty happy about it.
Sam's Barbecue
We managed to cover 2 meaty places this week and Sam's BBQ happened to be the first. A mix of an almost fairytale kind of ambience, affordable eating and plenty of meat to go around, we really liked our experience here. Plus, one of the best parts about Sam's is that it's halal. Not many meat restos go by that particular label. But, they are. So, rejoice!
Moti Mahal Colombo
Moti Mahal belongs to a giant restaurant chain in India. Their first restaurant in Sri Lanka, Moti Mahal is found at the place Mainland China used to be. At the very edge of Flower Road, Moti Mahal does a pretty wide range of food that mostly circulate around Chinese and Indian fare. With pretty high-quality food than expected, we really enjoyed our experience here. If you're looking for decent Chinese or Indian fare, make sure to check them out.
Coco Fuzz
We've had lots of CBP in our time and the Chocolate Biscuit Pudding at Coco Fuzz did not disappoint.
Essentially a home baker who had run out of her smaller cups when we decided to place our order, Coco Fuzz proved to be thick, rich trays of Biscuit Pudding with plenty of nougat on top and the right amount of sodden Marie biscuits hidden inside. And surprisingly, their White Chocolate BP was nicer than their one in milk chocolate.
Daddy's Smokehouse
Our second BBQ place happened to be this tiny spot called Daddy's Smokehouse that's a 5-minute ride from our office. They've been open for 2 weeks so they don't have a proper dine-in area as yet, but even then, they will try to figure something out so that you can dine in, just so that you don't mind roughing it out just a tad. With a very affordable menu that was a lot better than we expected them to be, we loved our experience at Daddy's Smokehouse.
Notable Mentions
Kantina Konditori
Found right next to FMLK, Kantina Konditori is a wee little cafe that actually has a history that goes all the way back to the 1930's. We decided to go with a First Look on this one. But, if you're looking for a pretty nice place to get your cookie/ dessert on, Kantina Konditori is a worthy opponent that's worth looking out for.
