It looks like the rains are here and it is bound to be a gloomy weekend. Gloomy days call for comfort food and here we are to help you figure out where to go this weekend to eat.
Treats – Homemade Delights
To start off our comfort food round, we're going with a delivery outlet that serves the best thing to indulge in from the comfort of your home – brownies. Based in Nugegoda, Treats – Homemade Delights is a home baker that does some darn good brownies. Super gooey, heavenly chocolatey and pretty easy on the wallet.
Sky 348 (Anarva Siddhalepa)
Sky 348, is the rooftop bar at Anarva Siddhalepa in Mount Lavinia. Offering up some spectacular views of the city, coupled with good food and booze for an affordable price, we liked this one. Their cocktails certainly have the room for improvement, but in terms of food, it's quite good. We particularly enjoyed their Grilled Pepper Steak.
Kaala Balan – Maha Gedara (Boralesgamuwa)
If you live around Boralesgamuwa, and too lazy to cook during this weekend, grab a couple of buth parcels from Kaala Balan – Maha Gedara. The pork curry is a must try here. Their HQ is in Ratmalana is another solid choice for your rice and curry cravings.
Punch Island Bar (Food Studio)
Colombo finally has a food court that serves alcoholic drinks, and that is Punch Island Bar in Food Studio. If you happen to wander at Colombo City Centre this weekend, check them out. They serve mocktails all day, but the cocktails and other spirits are available during lunch (12.00pm – 2.00pm), and dinner (5.00pm – 10.00pm) only.
Natural Eats
It is a truth universally acknowledged that healthy eating from outside home is ludicrously expensive in Colombo. Which is why we're glad that Natural Eats exists. Located at Crossfit Ceylon and available on Uber Eats, this one pulls off some delicious food, in the healthiest way possible, and they're really affordable. Make sure you try the Quinoa Bowl here.
Cimply Yummy
Cimply Yummy makes your dreams come true by creating the ultimate kottu flavour – cheese and bacon. They even temper the godamba roti with the bacon oil, while adding blobs of Happy Cow cheese, and load it with so many bits of bacon.
Seriously, what other excuse do you want to check this place out?
rare Bar + Kitchen
rare has been known for brilliantly blending local ingredients with international technique, and if you've got some cash in your hand – this is a superb option for a romantic dinner this weekend.
Che Che's
Che Che's is finally back after taking a break, and we're basking in glory! This home-based dumpling maker does both boiled and pan-fried dumplings, that are stuffed with delicious pork and chicken fillings. Rich and silky, the shells slide down your throat without any effort. It's pretty affordable too – you can get 10 dumplings for just Rs. 600.
