Phew, the rain. All you want to do is stay home, all dry, binge watch something while having a warm, proper meal. But wait, where are you getting the food from? Emergency meeting during the weekend; where would you have a place that is warm and cosy enough, coupled with some good food?
Or maybe on the off chance that the rain subsides and you want to grab a bite due to the fact that the rain had kept you cooped up indoors the entire week, which new place would you want to check out?
Or the Semis! Are you going for your same old place, to that taste your tongue is already used to, while watching the Semi-Finals of the Rugby World Cup?!
Here are the top picks from us at YAMU for this weekend!
Grill Mansion
It's late at night, and you're just craving for some really good, warm, spicy, meaty burgers or meaty subs that are just oozing with cheese. Grill Mansion is the place to go to!
Although it is not the ideal place to visit during a rainy day, due to the fact that most of the chairs and tables of the dine-in area are outdoors, getting yourself a delivery from here will not be a decision you regret. Sticking to the spirit of the food at AluthKade, amazing while also really cheap, the food at Grill Mansion is definitely a place you can check out this rainy weekend. Aside from subs and burgers stuffed with grilled meats, they also serve hotdogs and spicy wings, while also having the ability to boast of an amazing Caramel Shake.
Kyoto Mirai (Wonder Hotel)
Kyoto Mirai, the Japanese resto by Wonder Hotel carries an array of sashimi and sushi and also have a variety of meats, salads, noodles, rice-based meals, and a few dessert items and drinks. Not only do they have amazing food, but their pleasant interior is spacious and welcoming as well.
The Islandic (Flamingo House)
The Islandic is a virtual kitchen by Flamingo House, and responsible for some amazing food. Cheesy Kottu Roti lavished with spices and crabmeat, delicious renditions of Lamprais, the Islandic presents the traditional Sri Lankan fare with a twist.
Even the burgers here are quite interesting. Ours came with bacon, egg and pol sambol tucked in a well-grilled bun. Their food definitely strays away from the orthodox style of preparation, which we loved.
Cafe Thuna Paha
If you're craving for some good ol' Sri Lankan rice and curry with that tender, juicy polos, a spicy pol sambol that knock your socks off and the dhal, oh so perfectly prepared, look no further! Cafe Thuna Paha has an assortment of great traditional Sri Lankan curries you can choose from, and if you want to switch to a healthier option, you can also go for their red rice. They do delivery too, so if you're tired of just going for fast food all the time and is looking for that wholesome meal of rice and curry, here you go.
Burger Hangover
There is no shortage of places to get burgers from in Colombo but what we like about Burger Hangover is that despite the number of options one can order from, one can choose to satisfy their burger cravings from them in a heartbeat. In our opinion, these burgers are made with quality in mind and the big-serving sizes coupled with generous amounts of ingredients, at its price, burgers from here is definitely a steal. Multiple beef patties oozing out with cheese, burgers stacked with loads of nicely crisped up chicken bacon; you've got it all at the Burger Hangover.
There you have it, from us at YAMU! Hope you have an enjoyable, and since the RWC semis are here, an exciting weekend!
