Formally known as Eden Resort and Spa, Occidental Eden Resort in Beruwala is one of those places that balances luxury, comfort, and good old-fashioned Sri Lankan hospitality. We checked in for a quick weekend getaway and can’t wait to tell you all about it.
The Ambience

Right off the bat, the place looks stunning. Think modern elegance with tropical touches, lots of open spaces, and a relaxed, breezy feel. The lobby is sleek, the grounds are well-kept, and the overall ambiance is very much in line with what you’d expect from a higher-end beach resort. It’s fancy but not over the top, making it ideal for both couples looking for a romantic escape and families who want a comfortable, stress-free stay.
Service: Smiles All Around

One thing that really stood out to us were the staff. From the reception to the room service, everyone we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and genuinely eager to help.
At one point, we needed a few things in our room, they’re quick and efficient, which makes all the difference in a resort experience.
Every time we headed out for a meal, we’d come back to a freshly cleaned room with refilled amenities, which was a nice touch and made the stay feel super comfortable.
Luxurious, Spacious, and Stunning Rooms

The rooms are spacious, well-furnished, and designed for ultimate comfort, featuring plush bedding, stylish decor, and all the modern amenities needed for a relaxing stay. The bathrooms match this level of luxury, with large mirrors, excellent lighting, and all your bathroom essentials. They also include a bathtub stocked with toiletries, dual sinks for him and her, and a shower cubicle.
The shower cubicle was a bit small, and the hot water didn’t work, which was a slight letdown. However, it wasn’t a major issue since everything else about the stay more than made up for it.
Beyond the essentials, the room also comes with a dining table, a cozy sofa set, and a verandah with chairs perfect for relaxing with a book. There’s also an office table for those who need to get some work done and a TV in the bedroom and a TV in the living room, making it easy to unwind in comfort. The room we stayed in included a balcony, offering a garden view or a glimpse of the ocean ideal for sipping a morning coffee or unwinding after a long day at the beach.
Exploring the Buffet: A Mix of Flavors

Now, onto an important part of the experience—the food. It’s fresh, well-prepared, and enjoyable, but the variety could be improved, especially for longer stays.
The breakfast buffet offered a balanced mix of continental and Sri Lankan favorites, including cereal, Sri, fresh fruit, baked goods, and the classic eggs-and-toast combination. Along with everyone’s favourites: waffles and pancakes with a variety of toppings.
Lunch and dinner were satisfying, with plenty of meat options, but a greater focus on seafood and local specialties would enhance the experience. The selection leaned towards international preferences, with an emphasis on salads, fruits, and vegetables, making it especially appealing to foreign guests. Expanding the range of authentic local dishes would take the dining experience to the next level.
Other Recreational Experiences
The resort has everything you’d expect for a relaxing time away from home including a huge swimming pool, a spa, and a fitness center.

The pool is the real star here—big, clean, and surrounded by plenty of loungers, making it the perfect spot to just relax with a cocktail in hand.
Occidental Eden Resort gets a lot of things right—great service, spacious rooms, and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s perfect for a laid-back getaway where you just want to chill by the pool, enjoy some downtime, and soak up the Beruwala beach vibes.
